      SULPHUR - Anita S. Kraft, 91, of Sulphur died at 4 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Harbor Hospice of Lake Charles following a brief illness. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 5:30 to 9 pm at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur, LA with a rosary at 7 pm led by Lena Broussard. Visitation will continue on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Washington, LA, from 12 pm until 2 pm at which time funeral services will begin with Deacon Dwayne Joubert officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home.

      Born November 7, 1922, in St. Landry Parish, Anita was the seventh of eight children born to Arciuse Smith and Odette Guillaumin Smith. She and her family later located to Washington, LA where she lived until graduation from Washington High School in 1939. Anita continued her education graduating from Normal State College (now known as Northwestern State University) in Natchitoches, LA in 1943 with a degree in elementary education.

      Anita relocated to Sulphur where she lived until her time of death. Her thirty-three years of teaching elementary school included nine years at Frasch Elementary and twenty-four years at W.T. Henning Elementary. After her retirement in May of 1977, Anita became an active member of AARP and Young at Heart. She enjoyed gardening, working with roses and traveling. Her hobbies included art work consisting of cross stitching and crocheting.

      Anita was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Nolton, Carl and John Smith; four sisters, Ezoline Unsel, Elvie Ryder, Ann Johnson and Lou Smith.

      Anita is survived by two sisters in law, Bernice Smith of Sulphur, LA and Armede Smith of Palmetto, LA. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

      The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital and Harbor Hospice for their compassion and caring during her brief stay.
